GRAVEYARD ALERT!

Alvin Blanco writes in Giant magazine in a article titled Disc Closure that the beloved CD is fast becoming a thing of the past.According to Neilsen Soundscan,CD sales were down 20 percent during the first quarter of 2007,while digital-single sales rose by more than 50 percent.

"CD sales have been on a downward slide, particularly this year, says Geoff Mayfield, director of charts( senior analyst at Billboard)."When this ipod ready system takes over completely, you'll see CD's die out like the eight-tracks and tapes" says rapper Cassidy, whose 2nd single "Im a Hustla" sold 785,000 ringtones in just four months.

Most agree that CD'S spiraling down into a niche market isn't a matter of if but when. The digital realms rapid growth means record companies need to adopt their business models."Labels are realizing they have many revenue streams"says Max Grousse, executive vice president of A&R at Music World Entertainment, home to Beyonce and Kelly Rowland."People are consuming music differently."
